Addiction and withdrawal: Sugar

Filed under: Addiction, Sugar Addiction, recovery, sugar, withdrawal — Tags: , , , , , — Anonymous @ 5:02 pm

About Addiction and recovery from sugar, Addison Fletcher was kind enough to suggest adding the mineral niacin to one’s diet. She said that it cuts down cravings and I’m all for that. I have to look this up, but it seems like a good idea because G-d gave us everything that we need through eating and living properly, ie naturally.  I know that I don’t eat well enough, but I do take  a multivitamin. Thanks again Addison

I don’t have a sugar addiction, I just neeeeed sugar.  When I get anxious, I turn to sugar, and its everywhere. Although I don’t have other addictions like drinking or smoking, I need something. I tried exercise but how much exercise can you do. I tried praying but, but it doesn’t give me enough relief for anxiety over situations that I can’t do anything for. Anyone have any ideas?

Sugar Addiction and Recovery.

Sugar addiction is something that one can’t get away from. I don’t think that it’s just eating sugar, but needing it. When one is paniced or nervous or whatever. Perhaps its a combination of psycho-emotional and physical, because the body gets used to a certain amount of sugar in the blood and when the blood sugar level goes under that amount, the body actually produces more.

Sugar Addiction: White or Brown Sugar?

Sugar addiction knows no difference between white or brown sugar.

However, if one has to eat sugar, brown sugar does give more nutrients than white sugar. See the tables below:

Sugars, brown
Nutritional value per 100 g (3.5 oz)
Energy 380 kcal   1580 kJ
Carbohydrates     97.33 g
- Sugars  96.21 g
- Dietary fiber  0 g
Fat 0 g
Protein 0 g
Water 1.77 g
Thiamin (Vit. B1)  0.008 mg   1%
Riboflavin (Vit. B2)  0.007 mg   0%
Niacin (Vit. B3)  0.082 mg   1%
Vitamin B6  0.026 mg 2%
Folate(Vit. B9)  1 μg  0%
Calcium  85 mg 9%
Iron  1.91 mg 15%
Magnesium  29 mg 8%
Phosphorus  22 mg 3%
Potassium  346 mg   7%
Sodium  39 mg 3%
Zinc  0.18 mg 2%
Percentages are relative to US
recommendations for adults.

Although these minerals may seem minimal, still even 3% of the daily minimum requirement gives us something healthy. That cuts down the body’s craving for that particular mineral etc and helps us to feel more healthy and need less food. Then its easier to diet and eat healthy and deal with sugar addiction. Got it?

Sugar, granulated
Nutritional value per 100 g (3.5 oz)

Carbohydrates     99.98 g
- Sugars  99.91 g

Sugar Addiction and Recovery

Sugar addiction lurks in the corner. Well if I’m writing about sugar addiction the coming Revelation really should not surprise you. I am overweight and dieting. I got professional advise, I know the ballgame, and during the week I do just fine. But, and here it comes, on the weekends I loose control and generally gain a least a pound.

Sugar addiction works like this. All the family is together, thank G-d, and we eat “family meals” which last an hour or two. Usually, I do fine until desert. Everybody is there making such a big deal about eating desert ( Its not that great, but it’s OK!). So I eat a little to taste, no big deal. However, my body has tasted SUGARRRRR! Within 2 hours I want more. Well its the weekend, Just a little?

Sugar addiction has reared its ugly head. By Saturday night I can eat 3-4-5-6 pieces of cake and you can imagine what that does to the scale.

Have a good weekend!

Addiction – Recovery: Sugar Addiction

Sugar addiction, is it real. Well, when my wife wanted to loose weight she went to over-eaters anonymous. They have a very strict regimen which includes declaring in front of the group ” I am addicted to sugar.”  I was aghast and thought that this was preposterous, until recently. Now I have also admitted to myself that I too am addicted to sugar. Its a strange kind of relief and it gives me energy to improve.
